OUR MINI-PILING SERVICES, WEST SUSSEX

Mini-piling is a versatile way of strengthening a building’s foundations and is becoming a lot more popular in homes across the county of West Sussex.

Mini-piling is a great way of reinforcing new buildings and helping to alleviate issues such as subsidence. Our mini-piling services cover the West Sussex county, including Worthing, Littlehampton, Crawley, Horsham, East Grinstead and Chichester.

What is Mini-Piling?
This variation on piling uses piles with a narrow diameter, making them lighter and cheaper but still able to support the load required.

You will not need any extra support, even in weaker soil, and mini-piling is very useful if space is at a minimum. Mini-piling is perfect in built-up areas as the process means there is less noise and vibrations disturbing your neighbours. Mini-piling can be used for bridges and offshore wind farms, which proves its versatility.

MINI-PILING FAQ

  • How does mini piling work?

Traditional piling involves using a pile driver to smash piles into the ground under hydraulic action. Mini piling, however, typically involves inserting smaller piles with a narrower diameter with lighter equipment.

Mini piles are smaller than conventional piles, but also more expensive. That is because they need to support a given load of weight using less material.

To construct a mini pile, operatives first lower a hollow steel shaft into the ground and drill it into place. They then pour in concrete and grout to form the pile while the steel shaft prevents soil contamination. Unlike in traditional boring, there is no need for additional supports to hold back weak soil.

In some cases, construction operatives may use sectional mini piles for foundations. This process involves drilling into the soil and then adding supporting sections in sequence. It is a popular technique in weak soil situations or where a project requires deep piles.

  • What are the benefits of mini piling?

Mini piling, just like regular piling, comes with benefits. However, which you choose will depend on the job itself.

Mini piling tends to be most beneficial in confined spaces. Because the piles are smaller, so too is the equipment required to insert them into the ground. Clients often request mini piling in heavily built-up areas because it causes less noise and vibrations.

As with regular piling, mini piling has a range of applications. These include residential properties, office buildings, bridges and industrial installation, such as wind farms.
